1970 GM Monte Carlo Commercial ~ Super Bowl IV ~ Canadian Broadcasting Co. ~ Santa Catalina Island
Here’s a 1:00 1970 GM Monte Carlo Commercial, that aired at the end of the 1st Qtr. of Super Bowl IV on the Canadian Broadcasting Co. (CBC) Network on Sunday January 11, 1970. What is of special interest, is that the commercial was shot on Santa Catalina Island — 26 miles off the coast of Southern California… but, the “illusion” is that it is shot in Monte Carlo, in the south of France… That’s advertising for ya’… Enjoy!
My First Flight Lesson – Jan 28, 2012
First flight lesson as a birthday present. We took off in a fixed-wing 172 Cessna Skyhawk at Long Beach Airport and flew over the coastlines of Redondo Beach and Rancho Palos Verdes, Long Beach port, and near Catalina Island. I controlled the steering for most of the flight time, minus the landing. Special thanks to my parents and Rob Greham! SCENE SELECTION: Since watching an entire 14-minute video can be boring, I divided the video into “parts”, so that you can choose to jump to a next “scene”. 1. Take-Off & Climb from Long Beach Airport (0:00) 2. View of the Redondo Beach & Rancho Palos Verdes shoreline (4:32) 3. View of Catalina Island & Pacific Ocean (6:27) 4. View of Long Beach ports (9:19) 5. Landing at Long Beach Airport (11:26)
Transit 2000 – Ep. 3 pt. 1 – Explore Catalina Island using Mass Transit
Transit 2000 was a monthly television show produced by the Public Affairs Dept. of the Southern California Rapid Transit District and broadcast on Channel 13 in Los Angeles in 1992. Hosted by Joseph Benti and Dyana Ortelli, its focus is transportation in the 21st century, transit alternatives and issues in Southern California and car-less excursions to places and sites of interest in Southern California. This segment explores Santa Catalina Island, located off the coast of California, some 20 miles southwest of Los Angeles, its natural environment, numerous transportation alternatives (cars are a rarity on the island), and desalination project.
