Drab Mouse and Shab Crab are dreaming and singing of Santa Catalina Island, but they’re in Crescent City, California with Castle Rock behind them…Drab has been with me a long time, Shab Crab is a new guy, a wisecracker, but a very capable crab in spite of his great loss, he’s a Dungeness crab who lost all four right side legs in the Crab War…he uses a cane to get around, but he still has his front pincers to smoke cigars with…this is the first cartoon character I ever did that made me cry while I was creating him, I felt so bad giving him no right legs, but I gave him fortitude, grit, a free spirit, a will to survive and carry on, and a sense of humor nonpareil…
