Departing Catalina Island by Boat
This video shows what it’s like to depart Catalina Island, California. At first, the Catalina Island Express vessel heads outs slowly. And then, once at a safe enough distance from the harbor, it increases speed considerably. Notice the wake that the vessel leaves. The vessel is the Catalina Express, which was built in 1994 at a cost of $2 million US dollars. The ship can hold 150 passengers, has a monohull, and is powered by two MTU 12v4000M70 for a total of 4670 horsepower. The Catalina Express was built at Westport Shipyard, Grays Harbor, Washington, USA.
